A major step towards victory, today, for the first ever Right Angle campaign: HANDS OFF OUR FIRST £10,000!
WHAT THE GOVERNMENT SAID TODAY
Today, in the 2012 Budget, the Chancellor announced:
"This Coalition Government believes that the best way to support working people on the lowest incomes is to take them out of tax altogether. And today, I want to go much further and much faster. I am announcing the largest ever increase in the personal allowance – the amount people can earn tax free."
"From next April, people will be able to earn up to £9205 before they have to pay any tax. Millions of working people will be £220 better off every year. That’s £170 better off after inflation."
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
We say: THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS FOR MILLIONS OF ORDINARY BRITISH FAMILIES.
It's not everything we wanted, but it is headed firmly in the right direction. It puts at least £220 back into the pockets of millions of ordinary working people. That is not just about economic efficiency - it is about social justice as well.
We're hugely grateful and want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to the more than 1225 people who signed our campaign, and also to the more than 9,000 people who "Liked" our Facebook page. They are the ones that have made this happen, people like today's #RightAngleHERO Ankica:
In the last few weeks, people across Britain have sent a clear message to their local MP:
- That they want the Government to stand up for the millions, not just the millionaires;
- That only jobs, growth, and justice will get our economy moving again; and
- That prosperity must benefit the whole nation, not just the prosperous few.
That is what Right Angle stands for. It is our mission. That is why in the coming weeks and months ahead, we will set out bigger and bolder campaigns, to build on this success.
